Miliya, a Nepalese billionaire, owns 136 firms worth $1.8B

Binod Chaudhary, who became a politician from business tycoon, is the only billionaire of Nepal. His business empire is spread over many industries like banking, consumer textiles, education, hotels, electronics, energy and medicine. Chaudhary is the chairman of Chaudhary Group (also known as CG Corp Global). His group owns 136 companies in more than 12 areas.

Chaudhary’s most famous brands include ‘Wai Wai’ Noodles, which are also very popular in India and the non -banking bank of Nepal. His company has a total of 143 hotels in and in operation. These include many 5 star hotels being run in association with Taj Hotels Chen of India.

Binod Chaudhary was born in a Marwari business family in Kathmandu, but his roots are in India. His grandfather came to Nepal from Rajasthan. His father opened Nepal’s first departmental store. Binod Chaudhary was a third generation businessman of his family and was to join the family business, but he wanted to study further.

However, Kismet had something different and Binod had to leave a chartered accountancy in India due to his father’s heart disease. Binod took over the reins of business.

In 1973, he opened Nepal’s most prestigious disco. In 1984, he brought YY to Nepal. He also partnered with brands like Suzuki and Panasonic. In 1995, he bought a control stake in a non -bank bank from the Government of Dubai.

In 2023, Binod Chaudhary had a total assets of more than Rs 14,700 crore ($ 1.8 billion). According to Forbes, Chaudhary has a total assets of $ 1.8 billion. Chaudhary’s assets are quite low if it compared global billionaires such as Allen Musk, whose total assets are $ 247 billion, or Mukesh Ambani of India, $ 107.1 billion, then Chaudhary’s wealth is quite low. But still, he is the only billionaire of Nepal.

Binod Chaudhary is a Bollywood fan and likes Amitabh Bachchan. His inspiration is Indian businessman JRD Tata and South African President Nelson Mandela. As a politician, Binod Chaudhary is a member of the Parliament of Nepal. The 69 -year -old Binod has now handed over the reins of his business to his three sons Nirvana, Rahul and Varun.
